If you’d ask me to choose one recipe for you to try out of all the recipes on my blog, I would easily pick these Gluten Free Crockpot BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwiches. Don’t get it twisted, I love all the recipes I post…otherwise I wouldn’t share them with you. However, these pulled pork sandwiches are just so unbelievably good! Like the kind of good that you eat a whole sandwich and could easily go back for more simply because the taste is that delicious.
What Makes these Gluten Free Crockpot BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwiches the Best?
There are millions of pulled pork recipes out there but this one is so much tastier than the rest for three simple reasons. First, it’s all about the barbeque sauce. I highly recommend that you use G Hughes Original Sugar Free BBQ Sauce. It’s certified gluten free and it has just the right amount of sweet and tangy flavoring. Which brings me to the next reason this recipe is the best out there…the onions. Yes, I know it sounds so simple but the combination of this specific barbeque sauce and the onions is just straight perfection. It’s basically a party in your mouth that you don’t want to miss!
The third reason this recipe is my favorite (and will be yours too) is the gluten free bun. Again, there are a handful of gluten free buns out there but, in my opinion, nothing beats the gluten free hamburger buns from Canyon Bakehouse. These buns are also certified gluten free and compliment the flavors of the barbeque pulled pork perfectly. I tried this exact recipe with other buns and it just didn’t taste as good. Plus, these buns aren’t super dry and crumbly like the other brands. The melted cheddar cheese is an optional addition to this sandwich but one that brings all the flavors together for one unforgettable bite.
How to Make Gluten Free Crockpot BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwiches
So I just went into great detail on why these sandwiches are THE best and I didn’t even mention that they are SO easy to make. Crockpot recipes are my favorite because you just throw in the ingredients then set it and forget it. It doesn’t get much better than that!
Place the pork in the crockpot and sprinkle the salt, pepper and garlic powder on top. Dice the onions and add to the crockpot. Pour the water on top and cook on low for 6 hours (option to cook on high for 4 hours). When the pork is done, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Microwave the gluten free buns for 20-30 seconds until they are soft enough to cut open. Place the buns on a baking sheet facing up and toast them at 350 degrees for 3-5 minutes. If you are adding cheese, place the cheese on the bottom bun and continue to toast for another 1-2 minutes or until the cheese is melted. Remove the pork from the crockpot and shred using tongs, a fork or hand mixer. Make sure to just pull out the pork and not the extra juice. Pour the barbeque sauce on top and mix together until the pulled pork is evenly covered. Serve the pulled pork on the buns and enjoy!
