Why You Need this Recipe in Your Life
I am all about traditions that revolve around food. I’ve said this before in other blog posts, but food to me is more than just nourishing my body. I love recipes that connect us to each other and bring up good memories and all the feels. Growing up my mom would always make pork and sauerkraut on New Year’s Day and I loved it. Just thinking about it makes me smell the delicious scent of sauerkraut filling the house. This Crockpot Pork and Sauerkraut recipe is so simple to make. Simply add the ingredients to the crockpot and let it do it’s thing!
Ingredients to Make Crockpot Pork and Sauerkraut
- Pork loin
- Sauerkraut
- Salt
- Pepper
- Granny smith apples
How to Make Pork and Sauerkraut
The great part about this recipe is that it does not require much effort. The crockpot does most of the work!
- To get started, add the pork to the crockpot and sprinkle salt and pepper on top. I have the Crockpot 6 Quart Slow Cooker and love it. Dump the can of sauerkraut on top of the pork.
- Peel and shred the apples and add to the crockpot. Cook on low heat for 6 hours.
- Remove the pork from the crockpot and shred. Keep the sauerkraut and juices separate from the pork for the best results. I like to store each in separate containers and then add when I’m ready to eat it.
What to Serve with Pork and Sauerkraut
The only way I know how to eat Pork and Sauerkraut is over mashed potatoes! I haven’t tried it any other way and, to be honest, I don’t want to because it’s the perfect combination. I also like to add a vegetable with it for some extra nutrients (I served it with broccolini in the pictures seen in this post).
